Services – when and where

Sunday mornings, 10.30am
at the Mead School

There will be two Family Services per month and Communion once a month. Special activities will be laid on for children during the services which are geared towards adults.

Church is for all ages and there will be a time after the services for everyone to meet for coffee and get to know each other. It is very much hoped that everyone will stay for this very important part of ‘being church’.

The Alpha Course

Kingfisher Church will be working with St Thomas’ to deliver the Alpha Course. This is a really informal course on the basics of the Christian faith, described as "an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian Faith in a relaxed setting. The Alpha course is organized as a series of sessions over ten weeks, typically preceded by an 'Alpha Supper'". The meetings are low key, friendly and fun and it’s a great opportunity to get to know other people.

Each session starts with the meal, followed by a talk (often a DVD) and then informal discussion in small groups. There is no pressure to partake, a lot of people are happy just to listen. The talks aim to cover the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. Some of the talk titles are:

  • Is there more to life than this?
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • How can I resist evil?
  • Does God heal today?

What will it cost?

There is no charge for the Alpha Course although you may be asked to make a contribution towards the food.

The Marriage Course

How to Build a healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime

Marriage: the closest possible human relationship of growing interdependence

The Marriage Course is a series of seven sessions, designed to help any married couple strengthen their relationship. Each session starts with a meal.
The course covers:

  • Building Strong Foundations
  • The Art of Communication
  • Resolving Conflict
  • The Power of Forgiveness
  • Parents and In-laws
  • Good Sex
  • Love in Action

Mid-Week Groups

These are friendship groups which are termed ‘Cells’.

The meetings are held in someone’s home on the Mead and usually last about an hour and a half; some are during the day time and others, in the evening (currently Thursdays). Cell is about seeking to encourage one another to grow in their Christian lives. The basic structure of a Cell meeting consists of a ‘Welcome’ or ‘Icebreaker’, some worship followed by a discussion, usually with reference to the Sunday Sermon and ending with an aspect of how to reach out to family, friends, neighbours and contacts to bring them to the Lord.

It is hoped that everyone in the church will join a cell group as it is the main way that the leaders can carry out their pastoral care of everyone. It is a really good way of supporting one another and forming close relationships.

Parent & Toddler Group

Any parents or carers with babies and young children are welcome to meet with others at St Thomas’ Church Hall on either a Monday morning from 10.00am till 12.00 noon or at the Monday afternoon session from 1.00pm till 3.00pm during term time.

What they do

They aim to provide a safe, happy atmosphere with a variety of toys and activities where adults and children can play and meet each other and the helpers for mutual support and company. There is always a craft activity, a singing session and a drinks time. The committee and helpers are all members of St Thomas' and aim to reach out to the community. Twice a term they hold an informal Toddler service to which everyone is invited.

Part of a Community

Kingfisher Church look forward to supporting the Mead School’s events and working together as partners.

Many members of the core team are parents of children at the School and are naturally involved with their activities. There will be special services held throughout the year such as Easter, Harvest and Christmas which it is hoped will strengthen the links between Church and School, draw people together and impose a positive impact on the community. It goes without saying that members of the church will be involved in regular prayer for the school – for the staff, pupils and their families.

Prayer Support

One of the cornerstones of our ministry at Kingfisher Church is Prayer. We know that if we ask anything according to God’s will, He hears us. We want to put our faith into action by extending our prayer life to the community and so we would like to invite anyone who has a need, to feel free to share that need (anonymously if you like) with our prayer support team.

You or someone dear to you may be experiencing relationship difficulties, or maybe an illness or trying to deal with grief; maybe you are facing career decisions or unemployment. We are confident that with prayer, healing will begin to take place, we know that prayer really can make a difference. If you feel you have a need for prayer and would like prayer support, please contact Alison or Mark using the link.
